Denise Walsh

Walsh is an Associate Professor of Politics and Women, Gender & Sexuality and co-director of the PVI Collective. Her current book project, Nationalizing Rights, is a comparative study of minority rights and women’s rights in Europe, Canada, and South Arica. She is a co-PI on an NSF grant addressing diversity and discrimination in political science, is the president elect of the national Women's Caucus for political science and serves on the national Committee on the Status of Women in the Profession. At UVa, she co-founded the Politics Women's Caucus and Politics Gender and Diversity Committee, led the 2010 UVa White Ribbon Campaign in response to the murder of Yeardley Love, co-founded a Working Group on Gender-based Violence at UVa, and regularly teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on gender, class, race and sexuality, as well as gender-based violence. Walsh also is a co-founder of The Backlash Project, which investigates opposition to gender justice.
